Thomas Elwood Garrett (1828-1905) GM 1870 &1871
One of the most cultured men ever to serve over the Grand Lodge as Grand Master. He was born March 16, 1828 in Chester County PA and died in St Louis June 29, 1905.
For many years he was the literary editor and dramatic critic on the Missouiri Republican. He is given considerable credit for arranging the Masonic Funeral service used in Missouri.
He was initiated in Pride of the West Lodge No 179, St Louis Missouri March 9, 1861 and served as Master in 1865 and 1867.
Before serving as Grand Master Brother Garrett served the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons as Grand High Priest and Grand Lecturer for both the Chapter and Council of the York Rite Bodies.
